When I started planning my Arizona trip, I knew I had to visit the Grand Canyon. I’ve seen it in pictures my whole life, and I always wondered what it would feel like standing there in person. The only problem was, I wasn’t renting a car, and I didn’t want to figure out all the details on my own. I didn’t have time to get lost or stressed. That’s when I came across a tour on Viator that included the Grand Canyon and a few stops along the way. It looked promising, so I booked it.
The tour was called “Grand Canyon Day Tour from Phoenix with Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon”. It was a full-day experience, starting early in the morning and returning at night. I was a little nervous about spending an entire day on a group tour, but the reviews were good, and I didn’t really have a better plan.
On the morning of the tour, the van arrived right outside my hotel in Phoenix, just as promised. The group was small, maybe 10 or 11 people. Everyone seemed relaxed, and the guide immediately set a chill tone for the day. No forced jokes, no over-the-top energy, just someone who actually knew the route and shared helpful info without trying too hard.
The first stop was Sedona, and I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but the views were unreal. We had around 30 to 40 minutes to grab a quick coffee, stretch our legs, and take pictures. The red rocks looked even better in person, especially in the morning light. The guide also took us to a less crowded viewpoint that I wouldn’t have found on my own.
From there, we drove through Oak Creek Canyon, which is one of the most scenic drives I’ve ever been on. The guide pointed out a few interesting stops, and the conversations in the van were light and friendly. It didn’t feel awkward or overly “tour-group” like some trips can. Everyone was just enjoying the ride.
We reached the Grand Canyon around noon and had a few hours to explore. The tour gave us enough flexibility to do our own thing. Some people stayed closer to the viewpoints, others went walking along the rim. I personally walked a short part of the Rim Trail and just took it slow. I wanted to take in the view properly and honestly, no photo can ever capture how massive and quiet that place feels when you’re standing there.
Lunch wasn’t included, but the guide gave us options and recommendations. I had something simple near Grand Canyon Village and spent the rest of the time walking around. We regrouped later and made a few more scenic stops before heading back toward Phoenix.
What I liked most about this tour was how low-stress it was. I didn’t have to think about driving, parking, entrance tickets, or even which spots to visit first. Everything was mapped out, but I didn’t feel rushed either. It was the kind of tour where you still feel like you’re traveling on your own terms just with the planning taken care of.
This was my first time using Viator, and it honestly made the whole day easier. If I had tried to visit the Grand Canyon on my own, I would’ve missed out on Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. I also probably wouldn’t have known the best viewpoints or had time to relax without worrying about the drive back.
If you're visiting Arizona and don’t want the stress of planning a full-day road trip, I’d definitely recommend checking out this tour. It’s especially good if you’re short on time or just want one day that’s completely taken care of.
